‘Well, the question is were they able to afford it before as well?’

A short film that discusses poverty, social exclusion, and mental health, partly based on personal experiences.

The title of the film derives from a comment Prime Minister Erna Solberg made during an interview with NRK on the 12th of March 2021, a year after the first lockdown. The film highlights how the pandemic has made everyday life more difficult for families living in poverty, and how poverty infiltrates various aspects of life beyond simply being short of cash. The film gives us a glimpse of a life in poverty in an honest, dignified, open, at time funny, serious, and real way. For Hansen-Suckow, it is important that the film is accessible to all the citizens of the town. This is why she wants to screen the film at the town’s libraries and in a loop at Rådhuset in Kristiansand, because: ‘This is where the elected representatives are, those who make the decisions on the town’s behalf. Those of us living in poverty also make up the town’s fabric, and the film can be a reminder of the elected representative’s important social duties’.
